JAGUAR ROARS AGAIN

Categorical success for the Jaguar I-PACE as it reaps awards and approval from sector experts and the public, astounded by its style and ecologic approach.

The latest award obtained this year was the one assigned during the Engine Expo + The Powertrain Technology Show held in Stuttgart. The jury, comprising 70 expert automobile journalists from 31 different countries, elected the Jaguar I-Pace as Best Electric Powertrain and Best New Engine. Moreover, the vehicle produced by the Coventry-based manufacturer also came first in the 350 to 450 CV category at the International Engine + Powertrain of the Year Awards. An incredible triple win to add to that gained at the World Car Awards – an event held in New York at the International Auto Show – as World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car 2019. For the 86-strong jury of automobile journalists from 24 countries worldwide, the Jaguar is a perfect SUV from every aspect. In fact, it is THE perfect SUV.

Electric, and therefore ecological, with fantastic sports performances, considerable personality, a characteristic British style with an international touch – in short, a vehicle with excellent practicality and extreme flexibility. An authentic triumph. Since its launch just over a year ago, the I-PACE has earned 66 recognitions throughout the world, including the European Car of the Year 2019 and the German, Norwegian and UK Car of the Year awards. A fair recognition of the technical excellence of the zero-emission propulsion system, designed and developed entirely by Jaguar. «Exploiting all the advantages of the latest technologies, both in terms of battery and electric engines» said Ian Hoban, Powertrain Director at Jaguar Land Rover, «we have managed to build a vehicle of absolute level. Besides zero emissions, the all-electric propulsion system offers perfect balance between performance, elegance and autonomy, together with exceptional responsiveness, agility and daily use». The I-Pace, designed by Ian Callum, has four-wheel drive, a 400 CV engine, 696 Nm torque and accelerates from 0 to 100 Km/h in 4.8 seconds flat. The real heart of it all, however, is the 90 kWh Lithium battery which provides an autonomy of 470 kilometres (in the WLTP cycle) and, with continuous 100 kW electrical current, an 80% recharge only takes 40 minutes or, using a normal domestic wallbox at an alternating current of 7 kW, it takes 10 hours, ideal for overnight recharging. The battery is mounted centrally between the two axles, in the lowest possible position for obtaining a low barycentre and perfect distribution of the 50:50 weight which, together with the front double wishbone suspension and the rear Integra Link system, is essential for the I-PACE’s exceptional drivability and handling.

Integrating the electrical engines into the front and back axles means being able to use four-wheel drive, thus ensuring excellent vehicle control under all driving conditions. Furthermore, it also allows for a higher level of regenerative braking which reaches up to 0.4 G, maximising autonomy and providing easy “one-pedal” driving under many conditions. The Jaguar I-PACE is available at a starting price of Euro 82,460 and can be customized on the www.jaguar.it website.
