SOUND DESIGNER, THE JAGUAR SOUND WITH RICHARD DEVINE

The car is no longer simply a means for going from one place to another but an extension of ourselves. Not forgetting music.

A place where we can spend a lot of time. In the best and most comfortable manner. Taking advantage of every device we use at home, such as the TV and screens for video games or films. Not forgetting music. And therefore, the interior needs to be “designed” respecting precise rules so that sound is not lost or distorted. But, at the same time, it must be safe for those outside, the pedestrians. If this was not a problem for traditional fuel-powered cars, it is when it comes to electric cars.
And so, in order to better study the problems, and resolve them, Jaguar asked Richard Devine, an electronic musician and sound designer from Atlanta, also known for his own productions and for having contributed to the sound on the video game Doom, for help. «Sounds will be another thing that differentiates a car», Devine sustains. «It is a way to distinguish luxury cars from cheaper models.»

For Jaguar I designed and produced various ‘sounds’ until I found the one closest to the car’s spirit and that would reflect its essence.

And, in his opinion, every problem needs the right solution. And this can become an exciting challenge. «For Jaguar I designed and produced various ‘sounds’ until I found the one closest to the car’s spirit and that would reflect its essence».
This is why a particular sound needs to be studied so that every electric car is different. «More and more brands are beginning to understand the problem and are searching for a precise sound design aesthetic» that would differentiate them. And, in a world where everything seems the same as many other things, Richard Devine’s solutions stand out for their originality and elegance. Just like Jaguar cars. (Fabio Schiavo)
